Tim cantered his first racehorse
on his eleventh birthday...Very fast as he remembers!!
He rode daily for the next 6 years before taking up the position of
Pupil-Assistant to Bruce Hobbs at Newmarket.
During that time Tim rode and worked with many top horses (Anax, Grey
Barron, Tachypous, Tumbledownwind, Royal Harmony, Jolly Good, etc, etc).
A man's man and
a natural leader, Bruce Hobbs was an excellent trainer of racehorses.
Next stop was David Nicholson, a wonderful man who taught a horse to
jump with confidence and fluency. He has a skill for giving horses time
and building up their strength. A great Champion trainer.
In 1988 Tim
applied for and received the trainer's position at Andrew Wates' Henfold
House Stables.
During his time in Dorking, the tremendous support from Andrew Wates and
his family enabled Tim to purchase and condition some wonderful
horses with great success from a very small string.

Tim Etherington took
over Wold House Stables in 1994 when his father, Jimmy,
had made the decision to retire. After informing Andrew Wates of his
decision, Tim returned home to Yorkshire. Starting with 10 horses, Wold
House has housed some tremendous servants, with the emphasis on Horses
competing at a higher level relative to their cost price, including
